OCIA Sponsors/Godparents
Walk Alongside Someone Entering the Catholic Church:
OCIA Godparents and Sponsors accompany catechumens and candidates as they prepare to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church. Working under the direction and training of the Director of Evangelization, sponsors provide prayer, encouragement, friendship, and a faithful Catholic example throughout the OCIA journey. Sponsors are paired with catechumens or candidates as needed and play a vital role in helping them feel welcomed, supported, and connected to parish life as they grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
Volunteer openings: Ongoing as needed
Ideal Candidate
This role is a great fit for parishioners who:
- Are practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church
- Desire to share their faith through personal accompaniment
- Enjoy building relationships and encouraging others
- Can listen well and offer spiritual support
- Are committed to prayer and ongoing growth in their own faith
No teaching experience is required. Training and guidance will be provided by the Director of Evangelization.
Time Commitment & Location
- Meetings: No regularly scheduled meetings
- Time: Flexible based on the needs of the catechumen or candidate
- Location: Primarily at parish liturgies, OCIA sessions, and occasional personal meetings
- Length: Open-ended, beginning when paired with a catechumen or candidate
- Training and support are provided by the Director of Evangelization.
